This mod shows you how to place a webcam on your ASUS Eee PC Surf 2G/4G. This was developed by www.ModMyEee.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The Asus Eee PC 4G with webcam costs ~60$ more than the SURF edition. With this mod you can practice your Eee PC Modding and also save up to 40$ when buying your Eee PC.

What you will need:

A small, horizontal-model webcam. I used this "Satellite" USB foldable webcam.

A "one mod cable", as linked in the mods section. Buy it HERE

To see larger images, right click the image>View Image.

Here is how they look like:

USB MOD

This is the Mod Cable.

It connects to your (until now) unused webcam port.

Webcam

This one looked perfect for me because it has a separated usb "male" connector.

Open the webcam and strip all the unnecessary plastic.

This is how it should be done:

You can see it's size here compared to a pendrive.

Now that you have your webcam ready, get your Eee PC Surf:

eee

Note that there is NO webcam in the Eee PC Surf version.

Remove the battery.

screws

Gently remove the screws from the bottom of your Eee PC.

Store the screws somewhere. Don't mid if they get together with other Eee PC screws, they are all the same.

keyboard

Remove the keyboard by pressing back the three metal clips over the keyboard.

keybd

Remove the keyboard flat-cable by releasing it's lock and pulling it back gently.

Remove all the 9 (nine) screws from under the keyboard.

opening

To open the case, put something thin (like a screwdriver) inside the case, and make a lever to open it. It might seem that it will break, but it Won't. You can also use fingernails.

opened

This is as far as you need to open it. All the modifications will be made over the motherboard and not under it.

This is the webcam port when the mod will be connected.

bezels

Remove the screen bezels by pulling it out with something that you have nearby.

Remove the white bezels with something thin. I used a brooch I had nearby.

Unscrew the lid screws to remove the plastic cover.

lid

You can remove the lid cover also by doing a lever with you screwdriver or with you fingernails.

locks

It has many locks around the lid. Unlock them all.

lidremvd

This is how it looks with the lid cover removed.

lidwithwcam

This is the webcam in place on the lid. Check for a place where it fits without touching the locks.

locksss

If you have a problem with a lock that istaking the place of the webcam, you can remove it with a soldering iron or something else. This won't affect the structure in any way since the Eee has so many locks and also screws to hold the lid together.

wires

Attach the wire to the webcam port and also the webcam itself. If the wire is too long, you can wind it at the speaker plastic.

hole

Now you should know the exact location of the webcam lens.

Make a hole in the plastic case so that it fits perfectly.

Be careful not to make any scratches.
